Gods Own Kerala – 8 Nights / 9 Days

It is Gods Own Kerala, Gods own Country. Come explore the green heaven with Travelshoppe.

Day 01 Arrival in Cochin: Meet our representative upon arrival in Cochin and drive towards hotel to check-in. Overnight stay in Cochin.

Day 02 Drive from Cochin to Munnar (120 km/approx. 4.5 hours): After breakfast, enjoy city tour covering Mattancherry Palace- gifted to the king of Cochin, by Portuguese in 1555, about 500 year old & drive past Chinese fishing Nets. Later drive to Munnar – Munnar hills situated at an altitude of 5000 to 8000 Ft above sea level and are situated at the confluence of three mountain streams – Mudrapuzha, Nallathani & Kundala. This beautiful hill station was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Govt. in South India. Sprawling Tea plantations, picture book towns, winding lanes and holiday facilities make this a popular resort town. Arrive & check in to your hotel. Evening at
leisure. Overnight stay in Munnar.

Day 03 Sightseeing in Munnar: Today, enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of Munnar. In the morning, visit the Tea Museum in the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea, which showcases some of the exquisite and interesting aspects of the genesis and growth of tea plantations in Munnar. This Tea Museum houses curios, photographs and machinery. Also visit Mattupetty, located about 13 km from Munnar. Mattupetty is known for its dam and the beautiful lake, which offers pleasurable boat rides (on direct payment). Later visit the Kundala tea plantations and the Kundala Lake… the mountain slopes here are thick with undulating, evergreen tea plantations. The shimmering blue lake is the most photographed part of Kundala. Take a stroll in the tea estate, and enjoy the refreshing mountain breeze. Here you can view the entire process of making tea, right from plucking of tea leaves to their processing. Return to your hotel & spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay in Munnar.

Day 04 Munnar – Thekkady (127 kms / approx. 4 hours): After breakfast, drive to Thekkady (Periyar) and on arrival check-in at the hotel. Thekkady is synonymous to uninterrupted hills, rich biodiversity and spice plantations. The place is best known for the Periyar National Park. In the afternoon, visit spice plantation, enjoy an elephant ride (optional/ on own) here. . Return to the hotel .Overnight stay in Thekkady.

Day 05: Drive from Thekkady – Kumarakom (120 kms / approx. 4 hour): After breakfast, check-out and proceed to Kumarakom – a charming emerald peninsula jutting into the picturesque Vembanad Lake dotted with innumerable traditional country rafts, boats and canoes. The fresh water of the lake flows into the mainland, making a labyrinth of lagoons, canals and waterways. Spend the rest of the day at beautiful resort of Kumarakom. You may enjoy traditional Ayurveda massages here – ayurveda is the ancient healing system of India and has been practiced continuously for over 5,000 years. The various treatments are individually prescribed and involve the use of medicated herbal oils, herbs, powders and poultices & natural ingredients. Enjoy a boat ride in Vembanad Lake (Optional). Overnight at the hotel in Kumarakom Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 06 Kumarakom: After breakfast, enjoy full day at leisure in Kumarakom. Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 07 Drive from Kumarakom – Kovalam (170 kms / approx. 5 hours): After breakfast, drive towards south of Kerala, Kovalam- located close to the state capital Trivandrum, it is internationally famed for its palm-fringed beaches and rejuvenating centers. This coastal town initially came to notice with the construction of Halcyon Castle by the last Maharani of Travancore – Sethu Lakshmi Bayi. With the arrival of hippies in 1970s, the place gained recognition as a tourist destination and is today renowned for its 17 km-long coastline, which is formed by three beautiful beaches – Lighthouse, Hawah and Samudra. Upon arrival, check-in at hotel and spend rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Kovalam.

Day 08 Sightseeing in Kovalam & Trivandrum: After breakfast, explore highlights of Kovalam- covering lighthouse, Vellayani Lake and Valiyathura Pier. Later proceed for Trivandrum sightseeing, visit Napier Museum and Art Gallery. Return to Kovalam for overnight stay.

Day 09 Departure from Trivandrum: After breakfast, you will be transferred to Trivandrum airport for return flight back home.

  • Hi Manmeet Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thank you for organising the Mara trip. The Ashnil camp was…well hardly a camp. It was super comfy (in my opinion luxurious but some may disagree). Staff were friendly and whilst it’s a shame that they can’t control the wildlife and show you what you want, when you want it, the rest is on point. I’ve returned to the UK having (very luckily) seen the Leopard which was the one of the 5 that had always eluded me. I’d be happy to recommend your services to people travelling from here.

  • To all at Travelshoppe, thank you for organizing a fantastic safari holiday for us.  The Neptune Mara Rianta camp in the North Mara Conservancy lived up to expectations! A lovely luxurious lodge with super friendly staff, serving great food.  Everyone from our driver Emmanuelle, our waiter Alfred, our butler Elfas to the wider Neptune team were first class. The game drives were brilliant - we saw 4 of the Big 5 (lions, elephants, buffaloes and a leopard - no rhinos), plus a lot lot more including wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, topi antelopes, elan antelopes, hippos, crocs, monkeys, jackals, cheetahs, impalas, warthogs, hyenas, gazelles....A truly memorable holiday that we will treasure fondly in our memories forever!

  • Dear Lucy, Our trip was brilliant! The lodge, the staff, the food and the game drives were all outstanding. You were correct that the location in the Mara Triangle was a big advantage because almost all the other visitors were on the East side of the river which meant that whenever we saw interesting game there were no other vehicles; for example we saw this Cheetah alone and later spent 10 minutes watching 3 rhino alone before another vehicle (which had been alerted by our guide) arrived. I do not know if you planned it but we were the only guests in the lodge (although it will be full by the middle of February) and so had personal attention from all the staff. Another bonus (probably not arranged by you!) was heavy rain at night which turned the grass green and brought out all the animals.   • Morning Lucy, Our trip was great... thank you for coordinating a well thought out itinerary. Aside from the first day when the driver was late (so our day was very rushed), everything else went very smoothly. The hotel was good (though their breakfast monotonous- the menu didn't change once the entire week) located in a central place. I particularly enjoyed the desert safari and dhow cruise dinner; Ferari World was also a great hit! All the activities gave us an opportunity to see the sights and sounds of the place...though next time we will definitely have Burj Khalifa tour in the itinerary. Tendai was unwell for a few days with a throat infection and a nasty fever- Marzeena referred us to a doctor who treated him and he's now better. Perhaps he reacted to the AC and change in weather.... Unfortunately, KQ pulled a fast one on us on the return trip...we ended up leaving after 1pm instead of 6.55am 😣 and they didn't have a baby meal. Otherwise, everything went well. We appreciate your concern and attention to detail. Definitely reason to refer you to friends and have you plan our next holiday. Regards, Carol

  • Hi- we had a great time ! Kole Kole was the correct recommendation – also went down to Shimoni for the day which was wild ( the weather ) Staff,food etc outstanding . Family are already working out when they can go again ! Guide on safari was really good . days drive on the Sunday from Ngorongoro to Mara was 9 hours !   • Thank you for your email. My wife and I had a wonderful time at Ashnil. The service at Ashnil was impeccable and Joseph gave our game drives a memorable touch, always tracking animals ahead of the other teams. The dinner on the last night is still fresh in our minds, crowned with a surprise farewell cake. We enjoyed the trip to the masai village and we had an amazing insight into their culture. Oooh and yes Joseph made sure we tracked most of the animals.  That is from the hyenas, Foxes, to lions,hippos,Thompson gazelles,topis,impala,buffaloes,warthog, leopards and cheetahs. The staff at Ashnil were so warm and friendly our mealtimes were always so much fun. In short, we couldn’t have had a better honeymoon. Thank you very much.   • Just to let you know we’re having a wonderful time in Italy with Giorgio. We’ve had an amazing 4 days right from the first day. We’ve seen so much of Rome the “Giorgio way” with Giorgio riding his moped ahead of us & Kinuthia driving his little fiat! Early this morning we set off for Naples & Capri & teamed up with Shirley & Lucy who are travel agents from the US whom Giorgio was taking to Capri for a day tour & who apparently know you & sent their greetings to you! Giorgio helped us with all the other bookings & we’ve got all our train tickets & accommodation done for Florence, Pisa, Milan & Venice staying 2 nights in each city. We stay for one more day in Rome & leave on Saturday morning & we’ll also spend our final 2 nights back at Giorgio’s – he’s been an amazing host & has so much energy – can’t believe he’s 78!   • We reached home safe and sound and very jet lagged. I don't know how to thank you and Travel shoppe for our amazing trip. From start to finish it was just incredible. You guys really went out of your way to ensure that this was a trip of a lifetime ! The boys, my husband and I had the most wonderful time.
